UDPG can be regarded as \"active glucose\" and acts as a glucose donor in the body. Finally, under the action of glycogen synthase, the glucose group of UDPG is transferred to the end of the sugar chain of the glycogen primer, forming the alpha-1, 4-glucoside bond.
